“In Ostad Elahi’s footsteps” – 28 days straight on OstadElahi inPractice

OstadElahi-inPractice - Words of Truth

After the success of the “One day, one Maxim – 28 days straight” lab, which was based on the volume entitled 100 Maxims of Guidance, OstadElahi-inPractice is about to launch a new lab that will follow the same dynamic and intensive format. This time, each day of the 28-day period will be devoted to meditating upon and putting into practice one of the sayings selected from Words of Truth (draft of the forthcoming English translation of Ostad Elahi’s oral teachings originally presented in the Persian book Bargozideh). The excerpts were selected thematically as the title of this new lab “In Ostad Elahi’s footsteps – 28 days straight” clearly indicates. It will be made available as of January 31. Here is the lab’s short description.

In Ostad Elahi’s footsteps – 28 days straight
Words of Truth in practice

We are all now familiar with the “28 days straight” labs: one day, one saying, and the possibility to deeply reflect on its content and to build upon it in vivo, at the heart of our daily lives. This time, a selection of 40 excerpts from Words of Truth[1] will take us as close as possible to an approach Ostad Elahi vividly embodied in the smallest details of his life. “My approach, he said, resembles a new field of medicine that is based on years of asceticism, experimentation, and research; in reality, it is the synthesis of my personal experience.” As a matter of fact, those Words of Truth abound in personal notes, memories, intimate dialogues and direct recommendations or advice, most often in the first person. He made ethics and spirituality the focal point of his entire existence, and every step of the way, his thoughts, words and actions, illustrated in fragments throughout these Words of Truth, testify to it. Taking this lab is thus, in a sense, like following in Ostad’s footsteps. It is like tuning in to his “frequency” in order to implement the medicine of the soul in the most concrete manner possible: by example.

Comprised of a selection of over 470 Sayings, the French translation was published in 2014 as Paroles de Vérité, followed by the 2016 Italian translation, Parole di Verità.

Toward an in vivo practice Toward an in vivo practice

What would be the best approach to begin an ethical and spiritual practice? Focusing on one’s thoughts? On concepts? On actions? What method would be most effective? How can one avoid falling into an imaginary practice with only the illusion of progress? In this first open curriculum lab, it will be up to you to progressively define the content of your work by exploring the foundations of an ethical and spiritual practice that is truly adapted to the soul—that is, an in vivo practice.

Connecting with the Divine Connecting with the Divine

This lab aims at helping you better understand the goal, the effects, and the conditions of prayer, and make the practice of prayer a part of your daily life.

Breaking free from backbiting
Breaking free from backbiting

“Are you prone to backbiting?” Our immediate response to this question would certainly leave room for no doubt: “Of course not!” Backbiting seems so obviously unethical that no one would think of themselves as a “backbiter”. Yet, there is no single path to backbiting. No matter how obvious or subtle they may be, experience has shown that we go down such paths much more often than we would like to admit. (…)

Maximes de guidance - OstadElahi inPractice One day, one Maxim – 28 days straight

For those wishing to travel on the road to self-knowledge, it may at times seem more like a maze than a road. How is one to keep moving in the right direction and avoid getting lost? Meditating on principles of wisdom can help us find our way, but there can be no progress unless we put them into practice. How can we then go about combining action and meditation? (…)

That is great! However, OstadElahi inPractice only allows you to do one lab at a time. e.g. we would need to give up our other 28 day lab (“One day, one Maxim”) in order to do this new lab. Would it be possible to be able to do more than one lab at once so that we could do both at the same time?

As explained in the FAQ on OstadElahi inPractice, for now, you can only start and work on one lab at a time. However, you don’t have to discontinue any lab you may currently be working on, and you can take the time to finish it before moving on to this new lab. The “In Ostad Elahi’s footsteps” lab will be and remain available for you to complete at any time as of January 31.

I really enjoy this lab. Somehow the title of the lab “In Ostad Elahi’s footsteps” helps me read these sayings, that I had read before, in a different way. I see more concretely in front of me that this is what Ostad Elahi himself did…these are his footsteps…and I find that very motivating. Thank you.
