The art of Ostad Elahi: full-length version

The latest in the activities organized these past years around the exhibition of Ostad Elahi’s instruments at the New York Metropolitan Museum now include the full-length version of the film The Art of Ostad Elahi, featured on ostadelahi.com, Ostad Elahi’s official website. Radio producer John Schaefer’s 50-minute documentary provides a vivid and intimate portrait of the musical personality of the master of the tanbur lute, a series of interviews with musicians, musicologists and neuroscientists interwoven with previously unreleased archive documents, as well as video performances of Dr. Chahrokh Elahi.

Thank you for this engaging and beautiful video. One thing that caught my attention was when Mr Schaefer asks: “How does the music of a man who never made a record or even played a concert spread from the hills of North West Iran to NewYork’s Metropolitan Museum of Art?” and he continues to explain that. But what captured me, was that the question itself is unique about Ostad Elahi and I don’t think you can ask a similar one for any other artist. And this leaves a lot to reflect upon.
When I listen to his music, it somehow takes me to another world. It’s soothing, exciting, heartbreaking, warming, and just simply beautiful!
Touching and beautiful. I am very grateful to all those who have helped put together “the Art of Ostad Elahi”. Thank you !!!
